Making the College Admission Process about You

High School me in Such A Thing Goes

Greetings from sunny Southern California! My name is Jessica Frey (informally referred to as J Frey) and we am a Senior Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admission at USC. I spent my youth in Hollister, a farm that is tiny in Northern California that has no affiliation whatsoever with the clothes store. I attended a large public school that is high over 3,000 students and somehow found my way to USC to learn theater. My hope is that through sharing my own experiences, I will give you some advice and help you feel at ease when you approach the school admission process.

Many of you readers are going to be applying to college before long, and I also wish to make sure you know this really is likely to be all about you. It may feel a little weird and selfish for anyone who are constantly putting other's needs before your very own. But in purchase for you really to make an informed college list and end up at a place where you belong and feel happy, you do require to produce the university search procedure all about yourself.

I don't know I was in high school I made a lot of my decisions based on what other people were doing and thinking about you, but when. It's cool to wear red pants now? Okay, maybe I will go get that pair I had been eyeing during the mall weekend that is last. All the other young ones in my class are using to College XYZ? Maybe We should too. My counselor states I'd be good at engineering since I like my calculus course? I wonder if i will connect with engineering, even though i've NO IDEA what becoming an engineer is all about. We were holding all real thoughts I'd since well as many others through that anxious and fall that is stressful of senior year.

You let your own thoughts and ideas navigate your choices while it is very easy (and sometimes a good thing) for outside influences to shape your decisions, the college process should be one where. Listed below are three basic principles I think every highschool student should keep in mind they are going to apply to college while they decide where:

Focus on facts rather than opinions. Many people form opinions about different universites and colleges, but you should really give attention to yours thoughts of the schools along with the information you see as you research the colleges that interest you. It's important because they offer something that you want in your undergraduate experience- not just because other people you know are fans of the school, or because of its well-known reputation that you are interested in a college.

Think on what you want in a college experience, and apply to schools properly. It is now time for you yourself to think about just what a college campus should have to ensure that you to be a delighted and thriving pupil. Do you want to attend school in a large city or even a college town that is rural? Would you like to study abroad in a country that is particular? What sort of activities do you want to pursue not in the classroom? Do you wish to have the ability to the office closely with your professors? It has everything you're looking for, add it to the list if you find a school you've never heard of but! It doesn't matter if nobody from your family or school ever knew about the school ahead of your discovery. Maybe it's a place where you will have an enjoyable college experience.

Enjoy the search process! The procedure of developing your university list can be a daunting task, but it is also an enjoyable experience. This is the chance to learn as much as you can about the many colleges that are amazing universities across the nation. This can be your time to explore the array that is wide of and look closely at the colleges you're considering.

I really don't compose this website to tell you shouldn't listen to your moms and dads, counselors, or peers. You may have resources that are wonderful your disposal that offer great advice and insight. Counselors find out about a number of colleges and may also be able to tell you more about those that meet your criteria. Your parents are able to help determine which schools will financially be within reach. You just have in order to make sure their advice also aligns with what you want in a college experience.

That being said, we did buy and totally rocked the red pants. I'll acknowledge if I could get in that I applied to a college I had no intention of attending just to see. I did get into the school, but during the end of the that didn't matter day. It did not make me feel better about myself and it was quite really a waste of time and money. But I did follow my heart and became a theatre major rather than an engineer, and I'm so happy I did. More on that later.
